Questions:
1) What was your initial reaction the our music video?
The most common answer to this question was 'it made me feel sad'. However, some of our audience members went more in depth. Kieran, one audience member said it made him feel upset as it was a girl crying on a bed and that the elderly couple were quite emotive as the narrative was clear to him.
2)What do you think were the most emotive shots and why?
Our audience were mainly in agreement on this question. For this question, Holly, another audience member answered that the old couple holding hands were the most emotive shot as it shows that they've been together for a long time and are still happy together after all this time. Kieran was in agreement with Holly but he also added that the narrative of the old couple fitted extremely well with the lyrics of the song. He also said that the narrative of the young girl who had clearly just broken up with a boyfriend or something, he said thats why it was emotive for him.
3) Who do you feel is the target audience for our music video?
Our chosen audience were also in agreement that our video was aimed more towards the younger generation aged 17 or 18.
4) Do you feel the narrative fits well with the lyrics?
Kieran said that the narratives fit well with the lyrics as it is a sad song and it therefore, works well with the girl crying at the beginning etc.
5) Do you feel the mise-en-scene is fitting?
The members of our small audience all agreed that the mise-en-scene fitted well with our genre of music. The setting for the elderly couple appears of a sentimental value, therefore, making it more emotive for the audience.
6) Can you relate to the narratives in our music video?
Most of our audience said that they were unable to relate to our narratives as they said they haven't been in a situation like that before. However, Ross, one of our audience members said that he feels he could relate to the elderly lady to a certain extent as his Grandmother has been alone for a number of years but she probably isn't as isolated as the elderly lady in our video as she has lots of family around her.
7) Does it follow your expectations of the genre?
There was a general agreement for this answer that it did follow the expectations of this genre.
8) Did you understand the fact that the black and white was present day and that the colour was flashback as it represents the happier times?
For this question Ross said that he was a little confused as he would have expected the flashbacks to be in black and white as that is what stereotypically happens. Kieran said that he understood that the colour was happier than the black and white but he also said he was a little confused and thought that the black and white were also the flashbacks and that the colour was the present tense. However, Molly, Molly and I chose to break the conventions and put the flashbacks in colour as they were brighter and appeared to be happier times whereas the black and white was more dark and dreary, therefore making them appear sadder so we chose to make the present tense shots in black and white as it is the disequilibrium.
