Before starting the construction of our advertisement poster to accompany our CD case and music video, we sought to analyse and study some existing real media texts in order to gain some insight and recognize the conventions. It seemed clear that overall, many posters advertising an acoustic or folk artist show evidence of their personality, and give the audience a look at the physical persona behind the music which may not be seen in the music video or on the CD cover.
In the case of Ed Sheeran's advertisement for his first UK tour, there is a black and white theme and a very artistic, shadowed image. The black and white theme could be a creation of synergy or relation between this poster and the music video for his Number 1 hit single 'A Team', in which he was also featured. There is also the inclusion of a multitude of social media platforms by which information about him as an artist, or that his music can be reached from.
Belle's own existing media for advertising his first American tour is very similar, and typical of the acoustic genre (as understood by it's audience). It includes a similar, slightly artistic and abstract image of him as an artist, as well as a quirky font layout and black and white colour scheme. The objective is clearly to not only advertise and inform the demographic about the tour, but also to market the artist more profoundly as an individual behind the album.
